Comebacks
The cast of The Wire and New Kids On the Block?
It has been nice to see tons of people from The Wire getting work. Daniels is on two J.J. Abrams shows, Freemon showed up on Life on Mars, Michael is on 90210 (ouch), Sobodka is on True Blood and Omar was most recently in a bit part in The Miracle at St Anna.
Although it would be tragically poignant if the people from The Wire could never act again after the best show in TV history, it is nice to see them rewarded with new roles.
However, someone else has seen fit to manage a second life to another group of artists: New Kids on The Block.
My first questions are to Donnie Wahlberg. Did you ask your more successful brother if it was ok for you to re-shame the Wahlberg name. Then again, after Marky Mark did The Happening, Donnie could probably do one gay porn and not do as much damage to the family name. Second, you have a decent acting career, why do you want to be a guy who looks about 45 in a “boy band.”
On their new single I see Joey McIntyre is singing lead, probably because he is the only guy who can pass for being in a youthful band (if you remember he was the fetus dancing around on stage when the rest of the guys were in the 20s).
For the band in general – how did you get away without having an “ethnic” type. Backstreet had two (AJ and Howie), N’Sync had Chris Kirkpatrick who had ethnic look hair and JC Chasez, the most Caucasian of Latinos. The best NKOTB did was that guy who looks like a roided up Anthony Keidis. To compensate they drafted Ne-Yo for their first video and he sings half of the song.
I just find it weird that people and bands and artists stage comebacks or second acts in careers that no one is asking for.
That reminds me – 8 days until my second CD recording.
